About
Hi. My name is Naomi Petrik. I am a wife and mother to three amazing girls. I have worked as a nurse for 20+ years-mostly in Pediatrics. I have always had a passion for health and fitness and have been a vegetarian most of my life. So when my husband and two of my daughters were diagnosed with Celiac Disease I was determined to make the gluten free lifestyle healthy, delicious and cost-effective for the whole family. You will find that I am mostly vegetarian (I will do organic chicken and fish sometimes), sometimes vegan (yes, I have found gluten free and dairy free recipes my family loves), mostly healthy (because birthdays and holidays don't have the same health standards in this house), and sometimes paleo (because this family needs less sugar and more protein). All my recipes are kid and husband approved, along with the friends and family that frequent our home.
With 17 years of gluten free baking and cooking under my belt, I have definitely learned a lot (my bread doesn’t look like a brick anymore). I know the challenges of the gluten free lifestyle. I know that gluten free cooking can be expensive, time-consuming and overwhelming. I also know the challenges of raising children with food allergies and Celiac disease. Much of my journey starting out was trial and error, and feeling pretty much alone in the gluten free world.
That’s why I want to share with you the tips and tricks I have learned. I'm not a chef and I haven't written a cookbook. I'm just a busy mom that has spent lots of time in the kitchen making sure I feed my family healthy, gluten free food. You will find that even after 17 years of the gluten free lifestyle I am still learning new things (how many years did I send my kids to school with cute hand sanitizer's that contained wheat). I want to help make your gluten free journey fun, healthy and simple (because who has time for complicated). My goal is to provide you with resources, cooking tips, health tips, and simple, healthy gluten free recipes. Also join me on Facebook as Frugal Mom to continue the conversation.
